Shannon has about 20 years experiences in diabetes education in diverse settings, and a regular presenter at many state and national conferences. She is the NSW Branch Chair of ADEA. She has been doing several Indigenous outreach clinics as a lead/senior CDE/APD incl. AMS Redfern, Illawarra AMS and western NSW. Meanwhile, she has been the Diabetes Course Director and teaching the Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Management and Education at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) since 2019. She is very passionate about Australian diabetes health workforce especially the workforce in rural and remote areas and Indigenous diabetes workforce. In recent years, Shannon has devoted herself in developing and teaching the Indigenous stream of Grad Cert Diab Edu & Mgt to provide a culturally appropriate and safe course for the Indigenous healthcare professionals. She has successfully supported a number of her Indigenous students incl. Aboriginal Health Practitioners to become CDEs. In 2022, Shannon was received the Health Dean’s Academic Excellence Award for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (individual) and the UTS Citation for Teaching and Learning (individual) in recognition of her teaching excellence and dedication to diabetes education. She has further extended her passion in upskilling the workforce in diabetes education to the developing countries as an education specialist within the Life for A Child. Another area of her research interest is in health literacy and diabetes. She is a board member of Global Chinese Diabetes Association. She received the most prestigious awards in 2021 from China as the most influential international diabetes educator 2020-2021 and the most popular diabetes column writer 2021. She is also the Editorial Board Member for Frontiers in Public Health and regular reviewer for Publons (Health Promotion Journal of Australia, Journal of Patient Experience and Contemporary Nurse).
